Dear Parents,

Welcome back to a new school year! We hope that you had a wonderful summer and are looking forward to a great year ahead!
Here are some helpful reminders and links to get ready for the first day of school – Tuesday, August 29th! Please remember that dismissal on the 1st day is at 12:30PM. There is complimentary after-care until 3:30PM.

1st Grade Supply List

First Grade Teachers and Coffee Social

Our 1st grade teachers this year are Ms. Theresa Au and Ms. Jennifer Newton. Students will find out their assigned teachers on the first day of school, posted on the classroom door.

Be sure to stop by the JCPC after drop off on the first day of school for a coffee social starting at 8:15am.

For any new families, the JCPC is the building at the corner of Selby and Ohio with the main entrance on Ohio.

Family Badges

Family Badges are required to enter campus, including on the first day of school! These are required for all parents and guardians and will be needed at drop-off and pick-up. If you have misplaced yours or need a new one, you can register at the link below.

Back to School Night

Mark your calendars for Back to School Night: Monday, Sept 11th at 6:30PM – where you’ll get a chance to meet the teachers and enjoy some refreshments with fellow parents. Please note that this is a parents-only event.

Grade Pages

The PWC Grade Pages are currently being updated. They will have teacher contact info, resources, important updates, sign up sheets, etc.

The PWC pages in general also have very useful information including the School Handbook, Calendars, Vendor Information, Faculty Directory, After school pages, Festival resources and much more.

1st Grade Page

Virtus Training, Fingerprinting, and TB test

Virtus training, fingerprints, and TB test results are required for any school volunteers including but not limited to field trip chaperones, lunch/playground volunteers, and classroom volunteers. Make sure to complete these early so you don’t miss out on school activities!

Aug 31 – Fingerprinting only at SPA (all spots filled). If you were unable to secure a spot, please contact Mayora Hiney for alternatives. Fingerprinting must be completed through the Archdiocese. (mhiney@sp-apostle.org)

Sept 7 – Virtus training at 9:30am at SPA (there is still room!)
This is the initial training.

Sept 21 – Virtus re-certification 10:00am to 11:30am at SPA. This is for parents who have already completed the initial training 4 yrs ago and are due for renewal.

TB Testing – please return results to Nurse Van Anderson (vanderson@sp-apostle.org).

Please contact Mayora Hiney for more information or to sign up for the Sept 7th or Sept 21st Virtus Training.

Important Dates

Upcoming Important Dates
August 26, 10am – 2pm. Uniform Exchange taking place in the JCPC.
 
August 27, 5:30pm – 8pm: Parish End-Of Summer Picnic.  This is a back-to-school social event hosted on the school playground. Come see your friends or meet new ones over an In-n-Out Burger! Info attached.
August 29 7:45pm – 12:30pm: First day of school! Please bring your children to school no later than 7:45 am, as there will be a special prayer assembly in the school yard. School will be dismissed early, at 12:30 pm.
August 29, 8:15pm: PWC Coffee social for parents. Join us to mingle.
 
August 31: Fingerprinting. All parent volunteers must be fingerprinted. Those interested in fingerprinting, they need to email Mayora Hiney to schedule an appointment: mhiney@sp-apostle.org.
 
September 4: Labor Day. No School!
 
September 7, 9:30am: Virtus Training. This 3-hour training is required for those who wish to volunteer at the school. Virtus certification renews every 4 years.
 
September 7, 5:30pm: Parents Night Out. Mark your calendars. Evite and details forthcoming. 
 
September 11, 6:30pm – 9:30pm: Back to School Night. Mark your calendars. More info to follow.
 
October 20 – 22: The Festival. Get ready! It’ll be here before you know it!
 
October 23: No School.

Hot Lunch

Starting on September 5th, Organic Kids LA will be providing our hot lunch at SPA. Organic Kids LA provides hot lunch meals M-Th.

Please note that although you can create your account anytime, you will need to provide your child’s homeroom when signing up and those will not be known until the first day of school (8/29/23).

While Jersey Mike’s will continue to be offered every other TUESDAY throughout the school year, please note that we will no longer have Pizza Tuesday’s, since OKLA offers homemade pizza several times a week.

Back to School | Welcome All

First day of School is 8/29. Please bring your children to school no later than 7:45 am, as there will be a special prayer assembly in the school yard. School will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. for all students that day. The extended care program will be open for any students needing after-school care.

The class lists indicating your child’s room assignment will be posted on the classroom doors Tuesday, August 29, the first day of school.

             Welcome back 3rd grade! This is Ashley Mackel and Stephanie Sarstedt, and we are your room parents for this year. We will be keeping you up to date on all things 3rd grade through our “Constant Contact” emails and WhatsApp chat. On this 3rd grade page there is every school handout on the lefthand side – everything from dress code to traffic safety. If you can not find the answer to your question in the hand outs provided we are always available to find the answer for you.

Hi 4th Grade parents,

We hope everyone is enjoying the last days of summer. 
The school year is fast approaching and it’s hard to believe our children will be starting 4th grade!
For those of you we haven’t had the opportunity to meet, we’d like to introduce ourselves.
Cookie Kumpibal (Dad to Rylie in 7th, Leyton in 6th and Senna in 4th) and I, Maria Lagos, (Mom to Maria in 7th, Santiago in 6th and Jeronimo in 4th) are thrilled to be your room parents this year.

Welcome to 7th Grade!

 

Reminders

  • Uniforms – check handbook for requirements. Students may wear festival clothing every day until the weekend of the festival. Thereafter, festival t-shirts may be worn on Fridays only, and festival sweatshirts may be worn at any time.  Please note that festival attire from any previous years may no longer be worn to school.
  • Updated Virtus training, fingerprinting and TB testing are required for volunteering on campus and field trips, but are not required for mandatory traffic duty and festival duty.
  • A family badge is required for entry on campus at https://school.sp-apostle.org/school-info/family-badge-submission-form.
  • Check Schoology for assignments and grades, set reminders (if desired).

Click HERE to view the full parent/student handbook. There is a lot in there that is more relevant to older students, but we suggest any new DK families at least read the following 5 pages (or keep them handy for when you need this info!):

  • Attendance policies and procedures p.16 (for when you drop off late or pick up early)
  • Daily schedule p.20 (late bell, lunchtimes, etc. Keep in mind DK classroom opens at 7:30am not 7:10am)
  • Parent responsibilities starting on p.21 (traffic duty, festival shifts, etc)

First Week of School

-First day of school is Tuesday, August 29th  Dismissal is at @12:30 p.m.

-Friday, September 1st dismissal @ 12:30 p.m. (AFTERCARE is available starting on 8/29- Click the “Aftercare” link under “School Info” for more info and registration)

Supplies

  • Backpack
  • Lunchbox (lunch/3 snacks with easy to open items), Organic Kids La lunches will be available Tuesday, September 5th Please check the website to order.
  • Water bottle
  • Extra set of clothes for accidents.
  • **All items should be clearly labeled with student’s name**

Drop-off & Pick up Directions 

-7:30 a.m. school drop off starts in the D.K. classroom under the church. Parents please walk your child into the DK classroom. Last drop off should be at 8:00 a.m.  If arriving after 8:05, please enter through the front office on Selby. NOTE: DK has different rules than the rest of the school. The school yard opens at 7:10am for older kids but DK students should be walked to the classroom after 7:30am.

Pick up begins at 2:45 p.m. – 3:00 p.m at the DK classroomStudents that have not been picked up from the classroom will be walked over to the lunch tables to be picked up or signed into aftercare at 3:30 p.m. If running behind or picking up later than usual please email Ms. Aguiluz or Mrs. Bitto.
