PICTURE DAY – Thursday, September 16th

Picture Day for our students will be held this Thursday, September 16th. Order forms were sent home with all of the students last week. Please make certain that your children will be in their regular SPA school uniforms—no PE or Festival attire may be worn for pictures. You can log into the Storefront website at www.barksdalestorefront.com and use this password: 0021297IN.

All online orders must be submitted between now and 24 hours after Picture Day. When an order is placed online, you will receive a camera pass via email. This can be printed, given to the student and brought to Picture Day. The photographer will photograph the camera pass along with the student. After 24 hours, the online ordering access may close. Parents will have a second opportunity to order prints when pictures have been delivered, but all those orders are subject to shipping and handling costs of up to $8.50 and will be shipped directly to your home.

Don’t Forget Your Covid Consent Form

VOLUNTEER & DROP OFF UPDATES!

*VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENT UPDATE*

Parents/caregivers need to either submit proof of vaccination or provide proof of a NEGATIVE Covid test result within 72 hours prior to each volunteering opportunity they plan to fulfill at the school (e.g., traffic duty, playground, hot lunch, etc.)

All vaccination cards, or an email regarding your plan to test, must be emailed to the nurse’s office before festival shifts open up next week, failure to do so can result in your shifts being deleted, in which case you will need to sign-up again with whatever spots are available.

Email proof of vaccination or plan to test to Nursesoffice@sp-apostle.org

**NEW DROP OFF ROUTINE UPDATE**

The following procedures will be used beginning Tuesday, September 7th:
  • Vehicles will not be driving on to campus for morning drop-off.
  • There will be two curbside drop-off locations:
    • Selby Avenue in front of the school
    • Ohio Avenue, just east of our church entrance on the south side of the street
  • These two curbside drop-off locations will be overseen by parent volunteers who will open car doors and assist students with exiting the vehicles. Students will then walk directly into the front entrance on Selby Avenue or through the gate on the east side of the church.
  • Students MUST exit on the passenger side of the car.
  • Parents of students from all grades may choose to park in the neighborhood and walk students into the front entrance on Selby Avenue, or through the gate on the east side of the church.
  • Security officers will be positioned at the front entrance on Selby as well as at the crosswalk on Holman and Selby Avenues. There will also be a staff member on the church plaza.
  • There is no crossing guard at the Ohio/Wilkins/Selby intersection. Therefore, there is NO DROP-OFF on the NORTH SIDE of OHIO.
  • Drop-off procedures will begin at 7:15 a.m.  Upon arrival to campus, students will proceed to the playground where they will be supervised by school staff.
  • All students are expected to be on the playground by 7:50 a.m.  (This start time has been selected to avoid traffic conflicts with Emerson School, whose start time is 8:00 a.m.)
  • At 7:55 a.m., the bell will ring for students to proceed to their homeroom classrooms.
NOTE: Afternoon pick-up procedures will remain the same as they are currently.
Staggered dismissal times will remain in place.

Backpacks and Lunch Bags

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!

We hope everyone had a great first day. It seems like the kids are settling in and looking forward to the school year ahead.

We had a quick note from your teachers regarding backpacks and lunch bags.

THE SQUIRREL PROBLEM IS REAL

Backpacks will be kept on the balcony (overlooking the courtyard) while at school.  This leaves more room in the classroom cubbies for snacks, lunches and extra books.

All food, however, will be stored in the classroom cubbies. Food should never be kept in the backpacks at any time.  Squirrels are a real problem. If food is in the backpacks, the squirrels will eat through them to get at it. Please remind your kids to pull out all food before leaving their bags on the balcony.

REMINDERS: First Day of School Instructions

Hello Third Graders and Parents! We wanted to forward the information from Principal Pinkofski’s newsletter regarding the first day of school. There are some exceptions to drop-off times, locations, etc. Keep in mind this only applies to Tuesday, August 24.

Wellness Check

Don’t forget to complete the Wellness Check on SchoolPass before you arrive on campus. Contact Mayora Hiney at mhiney@sp-apostle.org if you have any issues logging in.

Drop-Off Locations

Drop-off is from 7:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.There will be two drop-off options for the first day of school.

Park in the neighborhood (not along Selby Avenue) and walk in through the front entrance. Proceed directly to your child’s classroom.  (There will be “relaxed” parking on Tuesday from 7:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.)

Pull up in front of the school and drop your student off with one of the SPA staff members on Selby. There will be several people available to help get your students out of the car. The students will walk up the front steps and proceed to their classrooms.

Parents will need to leave campus at 8:00 a.m. so that we can begin the school day. Please leave campus through the playground to avoid adding to the walk-in traffic around the classrooms. The PWC will be hosting a Back-to-School Coffee social in the Parish Center beginning at 7:45 a.m.

COVID Testing

COVID testing of faculty, staff and students will begin Tuesday. Don’t forget to include the COVID-testing consent forms and copies of your insurance card in your student’s backpack. Each student will need to have their own copies. Testing will be done with a saliva swab. On the Patient Consent Form, please mark RT-PCR COVID Swab Test and Oropharyngeal Swab (Mouth).

Pick-Up

For 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students, remember to send your student with a “Permission to Sign Out” note if you would like them to be able to sign themselves out and also pick up siblings at dismissal.

School will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.

To pick-up students in the classroom, park in the neighborhood (not along Selby Avenue) and walk in through the front entrance. The front entry gate will open at 12:30 p.m.

Older students with a signed permission slip will be able to sign themselves out at 12:45 p.m.

They will pick up their siblings at the lunch tables.

After-School Care is available until 6:00 p.m. Billing for this service begins at 3:30 p.m.

Welcome Back 3rd Grade Families!
