4th Grade updates 10-12-21

School wide updates as of October 12, 2021

  • Halloween: No Costumes, However students are allowed to wear free dress on Friday 10/29 as long as one article of clothing is black or orange.

  • We will be having mass on All Saints Day November 1. 4th Grade & 5th grade will be in church for this mass. Father Gil is allowing students to dress up as a saint if they wish for this day.

We have reached the midpoint of our first trimester, and parents are strongly encouraged to login to Schoology to view your children’s academic, effort and behavior progress. The grades that are posted will give you a snapshot of how your children are progressing in each of the subject areas. At St. Paul the Apostle School, we also see the importance of student effort and positive behavior in the classroom, and how this affects their academic progress and social-emotional learning. Please note any information that has been posted regarding these components as well.
To clarify, Schoology is our new Learning Management System where students and parents have access to courses, assignments, and grades. Gradelink and Powerschool Learning are no longer being used. A Parent Access sheet on how to create a parent account and link your child has already been distributed to each student. You must have a Schoology Parent account to access your student’s courses and grades. If you are not yet familiar with Schoology, an information document has been created for you to help you navigate through Schoology and generate a student grade report. Please click on the link below to access it. If you have not received the parent access sheet or have any questions, please contact Enrique Lopez, our Director of Educational Technology at elopez@sp-apostle.org.

4th Grade Updates

  • Teachers will be sending home the folders with completed work every couple weeks
  • Schoology course pages will begin to have materials posted for easier accessibility to classwork & homework when students are ill or have to be out of the classroom.

Volunteer Requirement & Drop Off Update

****VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENT UPDATE*****

Parents/caregivers need to either submit proof of vaccination or provide proof of a NEGATIVE Covid test result within 72 hours prior to each volunteering opportunity they plan to fulfill at the school (e.g., traffic duty, playground, hot lunch, etc.)

All vaccination cards, or an email regarding your plan to test, must be emailed to Nurse A before festival shifts open up next week, failure to do so can result in your shifts being deleted, in which case you will need to sign-up again with whatever spots are available.
Email proof of vaccination or plan to test to Nurse A at Nursesoffice@sp-apostle.org

Based on communication from our parent traffic chairs, room parents, and emails that were sent directly to the Administration; we feel it is time to revisit our MORNING drop-off procedures. We would like to take this opportunity to prepare for our upcoming Festival week drop-off, and at the same time use this alternate option. Many of you will recognize it as our pre-COVID drop-off procedure with a few slight modifications. We will be using this procedure for the upcoming two weeks, plus the Festival set-up week, and then we will follow up with a survey to all of our SPA families where you will be able to select which drop-off option you prefer.
The following procedures will be used beginning Tuesday, September 7th:
  • Vehicles will not be driving on to campus for morning drop-off.
  • There will be two curbside drop-off locations; one on Selby Avenue in front of the school, and one on Ohio Avenue, just east of our church entrance on the south side of the street.
  • These two curbside drop-off locations will be overseen by parent volunteers who will open car doors and assist students with exiting the vehicles. Students will then walk directly into the front entrance on Selby Avenue, or through the gate on the east side of the church.
  • Students MUST exit on the passenger side of the car.
  • Parents of students from all grades may choose to park in the neighborhood and walk students into the front entrance on Selby Avenue, or through the gate on the east side of the church.
  • Security officers will be positioned at the front entrance on Selby as well as at the crosswalk on Holman and Selby Avenues. There will also be a staff member on the church plaza.
  • There is no crossing guard at the Ohio/Wilkins/Selby intersection. Therefore, there is NO DROP-OFF on the NORTH SIDE of OHIO.
  • Drop-off procedures will begin at 7:15 a.m.  Upon arrival to campus, students will proceed to the playground where they will be supervised by school staff.
  • All students are expected to be on the playground by 7:50 a.m.  (This start time has been selected to avoid traffic conflicts with Emerson School, whose start time is 8:00 a.m.)
  • At 7:55 a.m., the bell will ring for students to proceed to their homeroom classrooms.
NOTE: Afternoon pick-up procedures will remain the same as they are currently. Staggered dismissal times will remain in place.

Welcome Back 4th Grade!

Welcome back,

My name is Ashley Mackel and I have 2 daughters Morgan (4th) and Molly (1st) here at Saint Paul the Apostle school. My Co-Room Parent is Molly Moursi, she too has 2 daughters, Libby (8th) and Cleo (4th). We will be updating the 4th grade page regularly to keep you all in the loop as well as contacting you all through email which is sent out through a system called Constant Contact. Both Molly and I will always be available to answer as many questions as possible and collect your concerns to be then handed to the appropriate person. We are looking forward to a “Back to Normal” year with our resilient class of 2026.

4th Grade Room Parents

Message from your Teachers

Dear 4th Grade Families,
Welcome back to school!! We are so excited to be your 4th grade homeroom teachers this 2021-2022 school year! We will be doing fun activities, reviewing class policies, and getting to know one another these first couple weeks of school! Looking forward to building our 4th grade community and the year ahead!
This will be Ms. Fisher’s fourth year teaching at St. Paul, and third year teaching the 4th grade. Ms. Fisher loves playing soccer and tennis, her dog Winnie, and just about any beach activity! Helping students develop their love of reading and writing is what she loves most about being a teacher!
This is Ms. Mizo’s third year at St. Paul. She loves teaching Math, Science, and Religion and is super excited to meet the new 4th grade class. She loves art and spends her free time drawing, visiting art museums, and attending live concerts and theatre.
Sincerely,
Ms. Fisher & Ms. Mizo

SchoolPass

On Tuesday you will receive a welcome email from SchoolPass, the app we used last year for wellness checks. This year we will not only use it for daily wellness checks, but also for classroom end-of-the-day sign-outs.

As a change from last year, you will add parents, family, childcare providers, etc. to the app as Drivers. Since we will not be using the carline function this year, DO NOT enter or add your students to another family’s carpool.

  • Each morning please complete the wellness check (this includes a temperature check) for each student. You don’t have to show it as you enter campus, but we will be monitoring it at the beginning of the school day. Everyone MUST complete it each day to help ensure that we stay on top of the health and well-being of the community.
  • FOR PICK-UP
    • When you come on campus to pick up your student(s), you will need to go into the app, select pick-up and then sign them out.
    • If your student is going to After-School Care, you don’t need to sign them out. The teachers will add them to the After-School Care roster each day.

After-School Care

After-School Care will be available this year. If you are interested in enrolling on a regular or drop-in basis, submit an After-School Care Enrollment Form to Mayora Hiney (mhiney@sp-apostle.org) before the first day of school.
