Uniform Reminders

Teachers have reviewed the Uniform Code in the Student Handbook with the students. They have also given reminders to students who are “out of uniform.” A few reminders:

  • Hair styles need to be out of students’ eyes. The length of hair should be collar length for boys.
  • Skirt lengths should be just above the knee and not mid-thigh length.
  • Tennis shoes may be worn to school, mainly black or white with a bit of color. Students may not wear canvas shoes nor slip-on shoes of any kind.
  • Socks should be ankle length (not the ones that disappear into the shoe).
  • Jewelry includes only a watch, one tasteful ring, or one necklace with a cross or medal of our Catholic faith. No dangling earrings.
  • No nail polish or acrylics.

School Uniform Notices

Beginning Monday, teachers will issue SCHOOL UNIFORM NOTICES to those students who are not complying with the Uniform Code. Please note that any combination of eight Tardies and Uniform Notices will result in a Detention Notice.

Detention is served with Ms. Bjelajac from 3:05 – 4:00 pm. Parents will receive a copy of the Detention Notice. Please contact Ms. BJ if you have any questions.

A Message from your Teachers

Dear 2nd Grade Families,

We couldn’t be more excited to meet all of you! We have so many things to look forward to this year. It’s going to be a year of a lot of learning, hard work, and fun! This first week will mainly be about getting to know each other, going over rules, practicing routines, getting organized, and learning about the subjects in 2nd grade. On Tuesday, students will be taking home an information packet with a little survey for parents to fill out and return on Wednesday. Please check your child’s home folder for this. You may keep all the information pages for yourself; we only need the survey sheet returned in the home folder the next day.

Starting the first week, we will also be posting updates with all the general information parents need to know on the 2nd Grade Homeroom pages. (You will select either the “2A Homeroom” or “2B Homeroom” course page to find that information). The other course pages will have extra information specific to that class if you want to view it, but you will only need to go to the homeroom page for the important general information.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns at mvina@sp-apostle.org (for Mrs. Viña) or mvaldivieso@sp-apostle.org (for Ms. Valdivieso). We are looking forward to a wonderful school year!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Viña and Ms. Valdivieso

Arrival and Dismissal Reminders

Below is the usual morning schedule:

  • 7:15 am – yard supervision begins.
  • 7:50 am – the first bell rings. The students line up and Grades K – 4 are escorted to class by their teachers while Grades 5 – 8 make their way to their homerooms.
  • 8:05 am – the second bell rings. At this time students must be in their homeroom for prayer and announcements. Students arriving after 8:05 am are considered late and must get a tardy slip from the front office to be admitted to class.

Dismissal for Students in Grades 6 – 8

Students in grades 6 – 8 who wish to sign themselves out from their classrooms at the end of the school day or pick up their younger siblings at the lunch table area must have written permission from a parent.

Once you have turned in a permission note:

  1. Students in grades 6 – 8 may sign themselves out at 3:05 pm (or 12:45 pm on early dismissal days).
  2. Students proceed to the lunch tables to pick up any younger siblings.
  3. Students may wait in either of the 2 supervised areas: the lawn by the school entrance on Selby or in front of the Church on Ohio.
  4. To pick up, parents may pull their cars up to the curb area on Selby starting at 3:05 pm (no need to park and exit your vehicle), or find a parking space near the Church entrance (please do not park in the red zone).
  5. Supervision ends at 3:30 pm and any students not picked up will be signed into After Care.

A Message from our Teachers

Dear Kindergarten Family,

Our teachers would appreciate if you could complete the following list.  Thank you!

1. The parent questionnaire. This will help us get to know the students and prepare contact lists, birthday lists, allergy lists, etc. Please share the following link with parents:
2. We kindly ask for an individual photo of each student to help us recognize students on the first day! We would love to have these as soon as possible so we can start learning everyone’s names and faces! Please email photos to both teachers and include the child’s name and homeroom in the subject of the email.
3. Just a heads up, in the first week of school we will ask every student to provide a copy of a family photo that students will present to the class as a get to know you activity. We will then hang the photos in our prayer corner to keep our families with us all year long! Please do not send a framed photo; we won’t be able to hang all of them. A paper copy will be perfect! 🙂

HELLO 4th GRADE!

Traffic & Safety

Crossing Guard Update

St. Paul’s is on the priority list for a crossing guard, but the city is still short-staffed. Please pay extra attention to pedestrians when driving around the school during pick-up and drop-off hours.

Safety Reminders for Drop-off and Pick-up

  • Please have your children exit on the passenger side.
  • No backpacks in the trunk, so kids and volunteers do not go in between vehicles.
  • While dropping off your kids in the carline, please do not make phone calls or text in the car.
  • Please pull up to the front of the line before dropping off your kids. Don’t let your kids jump out prior even if you’re late! This is a safety issue and a respect issue for folks that you might be holding up behind you.
  • Please don’t pull out of line before the car in front of you does so – Cars have been hit in the process by oncoming cars who are not in the traffic line.
  • Please do not drop off in the red zone across the street from the church.
  • Please keep dogs in the cargo area.  Please do not keep them in the same area where the kids are jumping out.
  • Please no parking in red.
  • Please drive slowly in our neighborhood and be respectful of our neighbors.
