Service Opportunities
In our faith, our call to service comes through Baptism. That service is a strong expression of our beliefs, so we incorporate opportunities for service through our parish and school. Some of these opportunities include:
- Sandwich Builders – assemble and deliver hundreds of lunches every month for those in need
- Westside Thanksgiving Celebration – donations of cooked turkeys and pies
- Adopt-a-Family – school families adopt families-in-need for Christmas donations
- Heal the Bay – Coastal Clean-Up Day
- Dishes for Dollars – students wash dishes to collect “tips” to benefit local charities
- L.A. Marathon – students and families staff a water table to support the Los Angeles community
- School Drives – students collect textiles, e-waste, school supplies, toiletries, etc. for charities
- Bake Sales, etc. – Student Council sponsors various sales to support a variety of local causes
- Peer Tutoring – older students tutor younger students after school in the library
- School Thanksgiving Food Drive – Thanksgiving Dinner Bags
- St. James Inn – Welcome Bags
- Run/walk for St. Jude’s
- Lenten Rice Bowls
- American Heart Association
- Altar servers, Ushers, Lectors, Gift bearers
Class Service
- DK/Kindergarten – entertain parish senior citizens at annual Christmas luncheon
- 1st Grade – pair up with 7th grade to lead the school’s “Read to Feed” program, benefitting St. Joseph Center
- 4th Grade – buddy up with younger physically-challenged students from another school for a day of play at “Aidan’s Place” park
- 6th Grade – create and sell Advent activity books and organize run/walk event to benefit St. Jude’s Research Hospital
- 7th Grade – accompany senior citizens to a Marian Mass and enjoy lunch together
- 8th Grade – volunteer to serve breakfast to the marginalized in south Santa Monica and Venice at Bread and Roses Cafe
- 7th and 8th grade students have a minimum service requirement of 10 hours per year
