Visual Arts: At Saint Paul, Every Child is an Artist
Walk through our halls any day, and you will discover an ever-changing gallery of student masterpieces. From kindergarten fingerprint flowers to eighth grade pop art, our visual arts program celebrates the unique creative voice inside every child. Here, mistakes become “happy accidents,” and every student finds their own artistic style.
Building Artists from the Ground Up
Our youngest artists begin with pure exploration: mixing colors, experimenting with materials, and learning art’s special language. Watch a kindergartener’s face light up when yellow and blue suddenly become St. Paul green, and you will understand the magic that happens here.
As students grow, so does their artistic confidence. They advance from tempera to acrylics, from basic shapes to original compositions. Along the way, they meet the masters: Monet, Picasso, Kahlo, and discover how great artists broke rules and changed the world. Most importantly, they learn that they, too, have something unique to say.
A Celebration of Every Voice
The highlight of our year is our spectacular art show, where every single student has work on display. Parents, grandparents, and community members marvel at our kindergartners’ first still-life fruits displayed alongside our eighth graders’ sophisticated sculptures. Each artwork tells a story that could only come from that particular child.
Where Confidence Blooms
In our art room, there is no such thing as “I can’t draw.” The child who struggles with math might discover they are brilliant at drawing. The quiet student might find their voice through bright paintings. Every child leaves our program with the confidence to create, take risks, and see beauty in their own unique way.
