From the desk of Sister Stella

“Gratitude is the fairest flower that blossoms in the soul.”

From the Desk of Sister Stella Maria, Principal:

Today we express our sincere thanks to the Parents Working for Children. Under the inspiring and hardworking leadership of Mary Kay Lalli, you all have served us well during the 2006-2007 school year. Our community has grown, resources have been allocated, and an openness of heart and mind to new ventures has been achieved. Mary Kay, your leadership has been a blessing to us all! May God continue to bless you and your family.

The Faculty, Staff and Students of St. Paul’s offer our most sincere sympathy to Coach Eddie for the recent death of his mother. Mrs. Rosenberg’s life was celebrated last Sunday with many friends and family. She is laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery where she may rest in peace.

We offer our congratulations to:

  • Miss Newton and her incredible JUNGLE BOOK cast.
  • Our advanced violin students who played with many other talented students across the city in the Schoenberg Auditorium at UCLA.
  • Mrs. Alessi and her outstanding debate team that participated in the International Competition at Claremont College.
  • Miss Hall and her students, from first through fourth grade, for a very beautiful and value oriented Spring Sing II.

We are so proud of and greatly appreciate our extra-circular programs!

TOGETHER IN MISSION:

Parents, as you know, the money for Together in Mission is allotted to the children of inner-city schools. A gentleman from our Parish, who does not have children at SPA, would like the students of St. Paul’s to be directly involved in helping less fortunate children. For each child who contributes ONE DOLLAR, this gentleman will match it with FIVE DOLLARS. To make this a fun experience for our children, the student council is sponsoring a Crazy Hat/Hair Day, and asks that each child contribute one dollar (only one) from his/her allowance. The Crazy Hat/Hair Day will be held on May 8th.

Please look for an alert reminder on Friday. It pertains to the mandatory meeting, which will be held in the classroom under the Church, on the morning of your choice. Sorry about the concern we inadvertently caused you last week when you could not open your Epistle.

Weekly Readings/Reflections

Readings for Sunday May 6, 2007

Reading I
Acts 14:21-27

After Paul and Barnabas had proclaimed the good news
to that city
and made a considerable number of disciples,
they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch.
They strengthened the spirits of the disciples
and exhorted them to persevere in the faith, saying,
“It is necessary for us to undergo many hardships
to enter the kingdom of God.”
They appointed elders for them in each church and,
with prayer and fasting, commended them to the Lord
in whom they had put their faith.
Then they traveled through Pisidia and reached Pamphylia.
After proclaiming the word at Perga they went down to Attalia.
From there they sailed to Antioch,
where they had been commended to the grace of God
for the work they had now accomplished.
And when they arrived, they called the church together
and reported what God had done with them
and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles

Gospel
John 13:31-22a, 34-35

When Judas had left them, Jesus said,
“Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
If God is glorified in him,
God will also glorify him in himself,
and God will glorify him at once.
My children, I will be with you only a little while longer.
I give you a new commandment: love one another.
As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.
This is how all will know that you are my disciples,
if you have love for one another.”
