“Lord, by the Light of the Holy Spirit you have taught the hearts of your faithful. In the same Spirit help us to relish what is right and always rejoice in your consolation. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.”
From the Desk of Sister Stella Maria, Principal:
A very Happy Pentecost Sunday to each and everyone! We offer our congratulations to our high school teenagers who will receive the Holy Spirit in abundance as they are confirmed by Msgr. Torgensen this Sunday at the 5:00pm Liturgy.
A SPECIAL REQUEST TO ALL PARENTS:
On Thursday, the oldest or only child in your family will take home a sealed brown envelope. In it will include a blue form, which I ask you to read immediately and return it to me in another sealed envelope by Friday the 25th. The envelope must be sealed for privacy from your younger children.
Please note that only the parents who volunteer to work with or supervise children need to fill out this blue form. Examples include, but are not limited to hot lunch and yard supervisors, teacher aides, art docents, readers for small groups, etc.
These signed papers need to be filed by June first as a part of the Archdiocesan Audit. Sorry for the rush, but St. Paul’s just received this information. Thank you for your patience, help and cooperation in PROCTECTING OUR CHILDREN.
We offer our most sincere thanks and congratulations to Denise Kilroy and her team of helpers for directing an outstanding Camp-Out Weekend! What an incredible community experience!
On Wednesday, May 30th, our violin students will perform for their parents. Six members of the class have advanced to Honors Orchestra and are playing with children across the city at UCLA. These students are Charlie, Kate, Francesca, Francisco, Samuel, and Jeewon. Congratulations to all of our hardworking violin students
Keep your child focused until the school year comes to an end
By this time of the year, even kids who used to do their homework without any complaints may be griping. And children who hated homework? It may be all but impossible to get them to study.still, homework helps kids keep learning right up until the end of the school year. If you’re having trouble keeping your child focused, here are some tips that may help:
• Talk honestly about frustration. Let your child know that we all have to do things we don’t like. Then try to find some ways to make homework a little easier. For example, have him do five math problems and then take a little break.
• Help your child understand the kind of homework he likes. A written report? A hands-on project? When he has some choice in the kind of project to do, he can choose something he enjoys.
• Find fun and easy ways to help your child review for tests. “Drive time” in the car is a good time to quiz your child on spelling or math facts. He can also study flashcards while waiting in the doctor’s office or standing in line at the store.

Readings/Reflections
Reading for Sunday May 27 Pentecost
Reading 1
Acts 2:1-11
When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled,
they were all in one place together.
And suddenly there came from the sky
a noise like a strong driving wind,
and it filled the entire house in which they were.
Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire,
which parted and came to rest on each one of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak in different tongues,
as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.
Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven
staying in Jerusalem.
At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd,
but they were confused
because each one heard them speaking in his own language.
They were astounded, and in amazement they asked,
“Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans?
Then how does each of us hear them in his native language?
We are Parthians, Medes, and Elamites,
inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia,
Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia,
Egypt and the districts of Libya near Cyrene,
as well as travelers from Rome,
both Jews and converts to Judaism, Cretans and Arabs,
yet we hear them speaking in our own tongues
of the mighty acts of God.”
Gospel
John 14:15-16, 23b-26
Jesus said to his disciples:
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
And I will ask the Father,
and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always.
“Whoever loves me will keep my word,
and my Father will love him,
and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him.
Those who do not love me do not keep my words;
yet the word you hear is not mine
but that of the Father who sent me.
“I have told you this while I am with you.
The Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you everything
and remind you of all that I told you.”
