"In prosperity our friends know
us; in adversity we know our friends.'
J.C. Collins
From the Desk of Sister Stella Maria Enright, Principal:
Have you taken time to call (310) 474-1527 ext. 285 to
learn about our super special EVENT?
Best wishes to all families on camp-out weekend. Have
a fun relaxing time. Our special thanks to Danny Amos
and all of his assistants for putting this great experience
together.
On this Sunday, Trinity Sunday, we will complete all of
our First Communion groups. We look forward to hearing
from second grade parents regarding the celebration on
June 4th. Please respond YES or NO. We need to know numbers
for planning. Thank You.
The following reflection is inspirational
for all of us but especially helpful for the parents whose
children are receiving their first Eucharist during the
month of May:
The Eucharist the gift of Jesus in the bread and
wine of Holy Communion is the most amazing and remarkable
gift we could ever receive. Every time we humbly bow and
receive the host and drink the wine we are living the promise
proclaimed by Jesus in John 6:30-35. I am the bread
of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who
believes in me shall never thirst (v. 35). The sacrificial
death and glorious resurrection of Jesus are actually made
present to us; we are celebrating not merely a memory, we
are participating in a miracle. We are receiving a food
that is good not only for this life but for the life to
come. St. Pius X wrote: The Eucharist is the shortest
and safest way to heaven. There are others: innocence, but
that is for little children; penance, but we are afraid
of it; generous endurance of the trials of life, but when
they come we weep and ask to be spared. The surest, easiest,
shortest way is to the Eucharist.
St. Francis de Sale commented: Whoever turns to the
Eucharist frequently and devoutly so effectively builds
up his souls health that it is almost impossible for
him to be poisoned by evil affection of any kind.
The Eucharist is food for the soul and nourishment for the
spiritual life which is the most important life of
all. In this Year of the Eucharist we can learn to be amazed
and so grateful for Jesus who is the Bread of Life.
What must we do to ensure that we grow in maturity and faith
in this important year in the Churchs life? We can
do no better than to take on board the dictum of St. Anselm:
Lord, I do not first seek to understand in order to
believe but I believe in order to understand. Perhaps
this is the key with the Eucharist we believe the
bread and wine are changed into Jesus body and blood
because Jesus and the Church tell us so. We now seek the
grace of the Holy Spirit to deepen our love, understanding,
knowledge and appreciation of this most sublime of gifts.
---excerpt from Bible Alive
Our Lord does not come down from
heaven every day to lie in a golden
ciborium. He comes to find another
heaven which is infinitely dearer to Him
the heaven of our souls.
(St. Teresa of Lisieux)

Dear SPA Families:
The reports from last weeks hot lunch were fabulous!
Beths Kitchen seems to be a big hit and we look
forward to trying some of her other dishes during the
coming weeks. Thank you to everyone who helped pull this
off and especially to Kelley Workman, our Hot Lunch Coordinator,
who has coped admirably with this situation.
The SPA Campout is this weekend. For those of you who
are attending, dont forget to make your campout
sign. Have it in place by Friday evening. Prizes will
be given for outstanding efforts and awarded at the big
Campfire/Talent Show on Saturday night! See you there!

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
Psalm: Sunday 24
Reading I
Ex 34:4b-6, 8-9
Early in the morning Moses went up Mount Sinai
as the LORD had commanded him,
taking along the two stone tablets.
Having come down in a cloud, the LORD stood with Moses
there
and proclaimed his name, "LORD."
Thus the LORD passed before him and cried out,
"The LORD, the LORD, a merciful and gracious God,
slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity."
Moses at once bowed down to the ground in worship.
Then he said, "If I find favor with you, O LORD,
do come along in our company.
This is indeed a stiff-necked people;
yet pardon our wickedness and sins,
and receive us as your own."
Reading II
2 Cor 13:11-13
Brothers and sisters, rejoice.
Mend your ways, encourage one another,
agree with one another, live in peace,
and the God of love and peace will be with you.
Greet one another with a holy kiss.
All the holy ones greet you.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ
and the love of God
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.
Gospel
Jn 3:16-18
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn
the world,
but that the world might be saved through him.
Whoever believes in him will not be condemned,
but whoever does not believe has already been condemned,
because he has not believed in the name of the only Son
of God.

Library News
The library is now closed for the remainder of the school
year as we prepare to take inventory of the collection and
refurbish the library. For our avid readers who rely on
the library to quench their literary thirst, this is sad
news. Fortunately, our school community has a newly reopened
public library walking distance from the school! Surely
the site of future field trips, the Westwood Branch of the
Los Angeles Public Library (located at 1246 Glendon Ave.)
is now open to serve your familys study and recreational
reading needs. Both the childrens librarian and the
young adult librarian will visit St. Pauls late May-early
June to share their exciting Summer Reading Program with
our students. Los Angeles Public Library events and programs
are always outstanding and your family wont want to
miss out on their great programs this summer in your local
neighborhood library.
The St. Pauls Library would like to thank the students
who participated in the National
Schools Project: Young American Poetry Digest. Over one
hundred student poems were
entered into the national contest and, of these, an amazing
fifty-five were chosen
to be published! What a tremendous accomplishment! A special
thank you to the teachers who supported this project, in
particular, Ms. McDermott who helped forty-nine fourth graders
get published nationally.
Congratulations to all students who participated and to
these students whose poems were selected:
