Reception to follow in the JCPC
Hosted by the PWC

Thank you to the parents who have completed the WASC questionnaire. The deadline is Friday April 22.

We are really looking forward to 100% returns.

Speaking of WASC---the year that a school participates in the accreditation we as a faculty are allowed to take six half days to give us time to complete this challenging task. As Principal, I find half days are not very productive.
In the past we have followed the following plan which serves parents and teachers. The families will have a full week at Thanksgiving. We as a faculty will work and complete the self-study Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We figure this is the most effective use of time as many families leave town early for Thanksgiving celebrations. Many students are absent Thanksgiving week.

Yes, we will have day care for families who are in town and who need the service. Wednesday of Thanksgiving week is always 12:15 dismissal. Wednesday afternoon we will not have day care.

In case you haven't noticed, we plan our inservice Days around Ski Trip and Campout each year to make life easier for our families. Just in case you are wondering.

When You Thought I Wasn't Looking
(Written by a former child)

A message every adult should read, because children are watching you
and doing as you do, not as you say.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you hang my first painting
on the refrigerator, and I immediately wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you feed a stray cat and I
learned that it was goof to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you make my favorite cake
for me and I learned that the little things can be the special things in life.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I heard you say a prayer and I
knew there is a God I could always talk to and I learned to trust in God.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you make a meal and take it
to a friend who saw sick and I leaned that we all have to help take
care of each other.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you give of your time and
money to help people who, had nothing and I learned that those who have
something should give to those who don’t.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you take of our house
and everyone in it and I learned we have to take of what we are given
.
When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw how you handled your
responsibilities even when you didn’t feel good and I learned that
I would have to be responsible when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw tears come from your eyes
and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it’s all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw that you cared and I wanted
to be everything that I could be.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I learned most of life’s lessons
that I need to know to be a good and productive person when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I looked at you and wanted to
say, "Thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn’t looking."

First grade parents
: Thank you so much for your continued efforts! I appreciate your arriving at 7:20 and for paying close attention to safety!

Kindergarten Parents: I am offering two sessions to Kindergarten Parents interested in having an orientation prior to May. If you are new to St. Paul’s and have not done traffic before you should plan to attend one of the sessions. They will take place on Wednesday, April 27 after drop off at 7:50 am and on Thursday, April 28 at 7:50 am. The sessions will last thirty minutes. We will meet on the steps in front of the main entrance to the school. Bring the orange colored booklet that you received at your orientation in September, as it has all of the information that we will be going over. This booklet is titled, "Traffic and Safety Program, Guidelines for Drop Off and Pick Up Parent Traffic Duty Position Descriptions."

HARD COPY OF THE TRAFFIC DUTY SCHEDULE WILL BE SENT HOME THIS WEEK TO ALL KINDERGARTEN FAMILIES. PLEASE LOOK FOR THIS!!!

Officer Tim Creedon
of the West Los Angeles Department of Transportation has been working to modify the traffic flow on Selby in the afternoon to ease congestion on Selby and to allow other non-school traffic to safely proceed north on Selby. Here is a note from Officer Tim re: Selby protocol, "Please drive in one single file line in the parking land when you are approaching the school driveway during the dismissal time period. It is unlawful to obstruct the right of way of other north bound vehicle traffic on Selby Avenue."

Cars may form a single file line along Selby to the Convent Driveway only.
Do not line up any further south! Do not line up onto Holman as well. We have been making an effort to have the gate open as early as possible to allow this lane of waiting cars to proceed into the yard to allow for a safe and efficient flow of traffic along Selby and off of Holman. We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we work on these details.

Final request:
We are seeking a cell phone free zone in and around school. We ask for everyone’s vigilance in this regard. Remind your fellow parents and yourself.

Weekly Readings/Reflections

April 24, 2005
Fifth Sunday of Easter
Psalm: Sunday 20

Reading I
Acts 6:1-7

As the number of disciples continued to grow,
the Hellenists complained against the Hebrews
because their widows
were being neglected in the daily distribution.
So the Twelve called together the community of the disciples and said,
"It is not right for us to neglect the word of God to serve at table.
Brothers, select from among you seven reputable men,
filled with the Spirit and wisdom,
whom we shall appoint to this task,
whereas we shall devote ourselves to prayer
and to the ministry of the word."
The proposal was acceptable to the whole community,
so they chose Stephen, a man filled with faith and the Holy Spirit,
also Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas,
and Nicholas of Antioch, a convert to Judaism.
They presented these men to the apostles
who prayed and laid hands on them.
The word of God continued to spread,
and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem increased greatly;
even a large group of priests were becoming obedient to the faith.

Reading II
1 Pt 2:4-9

Beloved:
Come to him, a living stone, rejected by human beings
but chosen and precious in the sight of God,
and, like living stones,
let yourselves be built into a spiritual house
to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices
acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
For it says in Scripture:
Behold, I am laying a stone in Zion,
a cornerstone, chosen and precious,
and whoever believes in it shall not be put to shame.
Therefore, its value is for you who have faith, but for those without faith:
The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone,
and a stone that will make people stumble,
and a rock that will make them fall.
They stumble by disobeying the word, as is their destiny.
You are "a chosen race, a royal priesthood,
a holy nation, a people of his own,
so that you may announce the praises" of him
who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Gospel
Jn 14:1-12

Jesus said to his disciples:
"Do not let your hearts be troubled.
You have faith in God; have faith also in me.
In my Father's house there are many dwelling places.
If there were not,
would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?
And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come back again and take you to myself,
so that where I am you also may be.
Where I am going you know the way."
Thomas said to him,
"Master, we do not know where you are going;
how can we know the way?"
Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.
If you know me, then you will also know my Father.
From now on you do know him and have seen him."
Philip said to him,
"Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us."
Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you for so long a time
and you still do not know me, Philip?
Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.
How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?
Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?
The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own.
The Father who dwells in me is doing his works.
Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me,
or else, believe because of the works themselves.
Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever believes in me will do the works that I do,
and will do greater ones than these,
because I am going to the Father."
