" If we really want to pray we must first learn to listen, for in the silence of the heart God speaks”. (T. S. Eliot)
70th ANNIVERSARY
On Thursday, March 9th each family will receive an invitation to our 70th Anniversary Celebration. Read all of the exciting information and join us in all of the activities and events. Thank you Julianne O’Connor.
From the Desk of Sister Stella Maria Enright, D.M. J.
Time is flying; we are almost through the first week of Lent. As we have heard in church during the past few Sundays, Lent is not about giving up things, but about setting aside some quite time each day to be silent and listening to God as He pours peace into our souls. Plan that ten minutes or so otherwise it will never happen. If we fail, try again.
We as a faculty had our retreat on Monday Feb. 27th at the beautiful home of the Molina family. We had ninety minutes of silent reflection in the morning using a published talk given by Bishop Gordon Bennett, S.J. "Being Catholic From the Heart” Again in the afternoon we had an additional hour of silence. For each of us this experience was most beneficial in a variety of ways,
Just to let you know the Daughters of Mary and Joseph will convene their Provincial Chapter at noon on March 15th.and conclude on Sunday March 19th. During those days the four Daughters of Mary and Joseph teaching at St. Paul’s will be delegates at the Chapter. Pray to the Holy Spirit for us.
On March 10th most catholic high schools will mail the results of the high school entrance exams to the 8th grade students. Parent, it is important for you to know that if you are not satisfied with the results, a high school can do nothing until all students have responded negatively or positively. At that time they will know if there are additional openings. Yes, of course, I will be more that delighted to help any parent in any way at the appropriate time. Please feel free to call for an appointment and let me know the best time of day for you.
Our students who are part of the Middle School Debate Organization are really enjoying the experience under the direction of Mrs. Alessi. The tournament, which took place in Palos Verdes on March 4th, had 44 teams and 130 debaters.
The team of Matt C 8th Grade, Patrick O 7th Grade, and John U 6th Grade won three out of four rounds. Individual trophies were awarded the top 20 debaters and among them were Cece O 8th Grade, Danielle D, 8th Grade and Heather R 8th Grade. Congratulation to all.
On March 30th the Debate Team will sponsor a bake sale to help them purchase some style of identification as a team when they are involved in a tournament.
Parents, Mrs. Damski has been diagnose with pneumonia and will be out for 2weeks. We are very grateful to Mrs. Madelyn Bailey, who will be her permanent substitute for the time she is recuperating.

Weekly
Readings/Reflections
Second Sunday of Lent
Psalm: Sunday 14
Reading I
Gn 22:1-2, 9a, 10-13, 15-18
God put Abraham to the test.
He called to him, “Abraham!”
“Here I am!” he replied.
Then God said:
“Take your son Isaac, your only one, whom you love,
and go to the land of Moriah.
There you shall offer him up as a holocaust
on a height that I will point out to you.”
When they came to the place of which God had told him,
Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it.
Then he reached out and took the knife to slaughter his son.
But the LORD’s messenger called to him from heaven,
“Abraham, Abraham!”
“Here I am!” he answered.
“Do not lay your hand on the boy,” said the messenger.
“Do not do the least thing to him.
I know now how devoted you are to God,
since you did not withhold from me your own beloved son.”
As Abraham looked about,
he spied a ram caught by its horns in the thicket.
So he went and took the ram
and offered it up as a holocaust in place of his son.
Again the LORD’s messenger called to Abraham from heaven and said:
“I swear by myself, declares the LORD,
that because you acted as you did
in not withholding from me your beloved son,
I will bless you abundantly
and make your descendants as countless
as the stars of the sky and the sands of the seashore;
your descendants shall take possession
of the gates of their enemies,
and in your descendants all the nations of the earth
shall find blessing—
all this because you obeyed my command.”
Reading II
Rom 8:31b-34
Brothers and sisters:
If God is for us, who can be against us?
He who did not spare his own Son
but handed him over for us all,
how will he not also give us everything else along with him?
Who will bring a charge against God’s chosen ones?
It is God who acquits us, who will condemn?
Christ Jesus it is who died . or, rather, was raised .
who also is at the right hand of God,
who indeed intercedes for us.
Gospel
Mk 9:2-10
Jesus took Peter, James, and John
and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them,
and his clothes became dazzling white,
such as no fuller on earth could bleach them.
Then Elijah appeared to them along with Moses,
and they were conversing with Jesus.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,
“Rabbi, it is good that we are here!
Let us make three tents:
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
He hardly knew what to say, they were so terrified.
Then a cloud came, casting a shadow over them;
from the cloud came a voice,
“This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”
Suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone
but Jesus alone with them.
As they were coming down from the mountain,
he charged them not to relate what they had seen to anyone,
except when the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
So they kept the matter to themselves,
questioning what rising from the dead meant.
