When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the morning light, for the life and strength. Give thanks for your food and the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks the fault lies with yourself.

The Solemnity of Christ the King

Psalm: Sunday 40

Reading
2 Sm 5:1-3

In those days, all the tribes of Israel came to David in Hebron and said:
"Here we are, your bone and your flesh.
In days past, when Saul was our king,
it was you who led the Israelites out and brought them back.
And the LORD said to you,
'You shall shepherd my people Israel
and shall be commander of Israel.'"
When all the elders of Israel came to David in Hebron,
King David made an agreement with them there before the LORD,
and they anointed him king of Israel.

Gospel
Lk 23:35-43

The rulers sneered at Jesus and said,
"He saved others, let him save himself
if he is the chosen one, the Christ of God."
Even the soldiers jeered at him.
As they approached to offer him wine they called out,
"If you are King of the Jews, save yourself."
Above him there was an inscription that read,
"This is the King of the Jews."

Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying,
"Are you not the Christ?
Save yourself and us."
The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply,
"Have you no fear of God,
for you are subject to the same condemnation?
And indeed, we have been condemned justly,
for the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes,
but this man has done nothing criminal."
Then he said,
"Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."
He replied to him,
"Amen, I say to you,
today you will be with me in Paradise."

SPA Chess

Way to Go!  St. Paul the Apostle Defeats Brentwood School, 10-9.

Congratulations to all 19 students who participated in Monday’s victorious fun match against Brentwood School.   Our players represented St. Paul’s with sportsmanship and style at Brentwood’s West Campus to play the first of many matches to come between the two schools.  This was Brentwood’s first chess match ever, so it was exciting to be their first opponent.  Ivona Jezierska supervised the players and was pleased with the final results for both schools.

St. Paul’s will host Brentwood for a rematch on Monday, December 10th.

Kudos to all of the St. Paul’s students who racked up victories or tied their matches and helped contribute points to the Visiting Team: 1st Grader Timothy W., 2nd Graders Reid W., Colin H., Jackson F., Connor B., Devon M. and Matthew W.

3rd Graders included Patrick M. and. Stephen B. and the 4th Graders who scored for SPA were Stefano W., Alex K.,Graham M. and Hale W.

Chess Club currently has 75 members and looks forward to additional fun matches in the new year with other schools including our previous 2007 opponents,

John Thomas Dye and Westwood Charter.

Happy Thanksgiving!
