From the desk of Sister Stella

“When you put faith, hope and love together, you can raise positive children in a negative world.” (Zig Ziglar)

From the Desk of Sister Stella Maria, Principal:

The following is for the Faculty Inservice on Friday, November 3rd:

The members of the Math Department will attend the California Mathematics Council. This year it will be held at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The theme for the conference is: BIG IDEAS, CONNECTING MATH CONCEPTS FOR EVERY LEARNER.

All other Departments will attend an Inservice at St. Paul the Apostle School. Our presenter is Bob Berkowitz, author of the program Big6™ Information & Technology Skills Initiative. The program is to ensure that “students are effective users of ideas, information and technology” (Bob Berkowitz). There is a plan in place for the Math Department to receive this information.

At your Parent/Teacher Conference you should have received a copy of the booklet, FAITH AT HOME. If you do not have it, please let Mr. BJ know immediately.

Thank you again to the two hundred plus parents who attended the workshop, PROTECING GOD’S CHILDREN. Just remember that you will only be able to work with children on-campus if we have a copy of your certificate. If you have not sent it into the office, you will not be on the list for the teachers you are helping. For the parents who were not able to attend the program at St. Paul’s, you will have an opportunity to take it at St. Martin of Tours on November 8th, from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

The results of the survey (sent to the parents of girls from Kindergarten through Fourth Grades), regarding keeping or discarding the PINK UNIFORM, are as follows:

  • 59 people said “KEEP”
  • 28 people said “IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE”
  • 9 people said “DO NOT KEEP”

This information has been given to the uniform company. We will let you know their decision shortly.

TEAM TENNIS

The goal of St. Paul’s Team Tennis is to develop sportsmanship, team spirit, and the proper on court behavior in a non-competitive, fun and challenging environment within the St. Paul School community.  The teams will not be coached or given any professional tennis instruction.  Team tennis is designed to promote weekly practice and social interaction among children.  Children are required to have a minimum of one to two years of tennis playing experience and the ability to serve and keep score.

TEAM TENNIS WORKS ONLY WITH THE PARTICIPATION AND SUPPORT OF THE PARENTS.  If you want to see this program continue for your child, please consider volunteering to chair or co-chair this program.  Call Mary Kay Lalli this week as the reservations for court time and the registration process need to begin.

Weekly Readings/Reflections

READINGS FOR SUNDAY

November 5

Reading 1
Deuteronomy 6:2-6

Moses spoke to the people, saying:
"Fear the LORD, your God,
and keep, throughout the days of your lives,
all his statutes and commandments which I enjoin on you,
and thus have long life.
Hear then, Israel, and be careful to observe them,
that you may grow and prosper the more,
in keeping with the promise of the LORD, the God of your fathers,
to give you a land flowing with milk and honey.

"Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone!
Therefore, you shall love the LORD, your God,
with all your heart,
and with all your soul,
and with all your strength.
Take to heart these words which I enjoin on you today."

Gospel
Mark12:28b-34

One of the scribes came to Jesus and asked him,
"Which is the first of all the commandments?"
Jesus replied, "The first is this:
Hear, O Israel!
The Lord our God is Lord alone!
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
with all your soul,
with all your mind,
and with all your strength.
The second is this:
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
There is no other commandment greater than these."
The scribe said to him, "Well said, teacher.
You are right in saying,
'He is One and there is no other than he.'
And 'to love him with all your heart,
with all your understanding,
with all your strength,
and to love your neighbor as yourself'
is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."
And when Jesus saw that he answered with understanding,
he said to him,
"You are not far from the kingdom of God."
And no one dared to ask him any more questions.
