"To direct a child's will successfully, two things are essential to the parent/teacher, the respect and the affection of the child. Add to these a firmness of character, free from harshness". C.V.C.
From the desk of Sister Stella Maria, Principal:
It is that time of year where volleyball and football seasons are drawing to a close. For the most part, the programs have flown by very smoothly and successfully. At St. Paul's, success is measured by doing your best and by exhibiting good sportsmanship at all times. We thank and congratulate all of our coaches who have instilled these values in our young athletes. Please check your calendars, as we will celebrate our various teams and their coaches in a few weeks time. The basketball season is currently under consideration and we are in the process of finding out how many students plan to play on the team. Once we have a headcount, we will then decide on the number of teams and how many coaches are needed. For our football season, we had a great number of dads and we are praying that there are more parents who will fill the basketball ticket if the need arises. Parents, please start thinking about it and call Coach Suizzo or Coach Keith to let them know that you are interested. We are so appreciative of any help you can give our eager sports students.
The winners of the School Foundation Thanksgiving Card Contest are:
3rd Place - Joey S. (6thGrade)
2nd Place - Nora O. (1st Grade))
1st Place - Corbin C. (6th Grade)
Congratulations and thanks to all students who participated in the contest!
Parents, it is obvious to me from various requests received, that the following handbook policies should be revised:
School Appointments – page 12.
Telephones / Cell Phones, etc. – page 14.
Homework for Absentees – page 22.

TRAFFIC NOTE:
Please read the following carefully and see that your Room Parents communicate this to everyone on their Traffic Sign-Up Sheets.
DROP – OFF
NO PARKING ON SELBY north of the driveway. In the morning, cars need to proceed single file, and those not entering the driveway must leave in order, in a single lane. It is unsafe for them to have to exit around parked cars, and for those parked cars to have to pull out into an already narrow street with a steady flow of northbound traffic.
PICK-UP
The Selby Director will allow cars to enter the driveway ONLY WHEN THE SCHOOL GATE HAS BEEN OPENED. The driveway cannot be blocked by cars as parish/rectory traffic needs to enter/exit. In case of emergency, that driveway must remain clear. As soon as the gates open, cars can proceed into the driveway and parking lot, and the driveway will be blocked for as short a time as possible.
The Selby Driveway Director shall arrive at their post no later than 2:40 and
stay until 3:20. There is a considerable amount of foot traffic across the school driveway long after most of the cars have filed into the parking lot. The Director needs to be there to insure that it is safe to cross the driveway (both SPA and Emerson students and their parents). “Straggler” cars enter after 3:00 and the driveway must be clear before they enter.
Cars waiting to enter the parking lot line up along Selby as usual. However, if you see that the line extends to the northern Emerson driveway, youMUST CIRCLE AROUND THE CORNER UNTIL CARS ARE PROCEEDING INTO THE DRIVEWAY FOR PICKUP.

Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Psalm: Sunday 40
Reading I
Mal 3:19-20a
Lo, the day is coming, blazing like an oven,
when all the proud and all evildoers will be stubble,
and the day that is coming will set them on fire,
leaving them neither root nor branch,
says the LORD of hosts.
But for you who fear my name, there will arise
the sun of justice with its healing rays.
Gospel
Lk 21:5-19
While some people were speaking about
how the temple was adorned with costly stones and votive offerings,
Jesus said, "All that you see here--
the days will come when there will not be left
a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down."
Then they asked him,
"Teacher, when will this happen?
And what sign will there be when all these things are about to happen?"
He answered,
"See that you not be deceived,
for many will come in my name, saying,
'I am he,’ and 'The time has come.’
Do not follow them!
When you hear of wars and insurrections,
do not be terrified; for such things must happen first,
but it will not immediately be the end."
Then he said to them,
"Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues
from place to place;
and awesome sights and mighty signs will come from the sky.
"Before all this happens, however,
they will seize and persecute you,
they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons,
and they will have you led before kings and governors
because of my name.
It will lead to your giving testimony.
Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand,
for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking
that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute.
You will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends,
and they will put some of you to death.
You will be hated by all because of my name,
but not a hair on your head will be destroyed.
By your perseverance you will secure your lives."
