“Nothing you do for children is ever wasted. They seem not to notice us hovering, averting our eyes and they seldom offer thanks, but what we do for them is never wasted.” (Garrison Keillor)
From the Desk of Sister Stella Maria, Principal:
On Sunday, October 22, 2006: Sister Margaret Mary Haller, DMJ will celebrate her golden jubilee along with six other DMJ’s. The service will be held at St. John Fischer Church in Palos Verdes at 2:30 p.m. We offer Sister Margaret our most sincere congratulations! We thank God for her years of dedication and service in various parts of the world and especially here at St. Paul’s. Later this fall, our Parish will honor her at a Sunday Liturgy with a reception to follow.
Parents of the primary grades will be given results for the pink uniforms next week.
We received a call from the Regis House located in West Los Angeles, which is a program that is run by the Sisters of Social Services. They have an after school program for the underprivileged children of the area. It allows these students to have the aide of tutor volunteers for their homework, rather than going directly to a home that does not offer such resources. The Regis House is in desperate need of school supplies. May we ask our St. Paul students to bring an inexpensive item to help these children in need? If your family is able to, please bring the following item by the grade level of your child:
8th – One package of folder paper.
7th – One spiral notebook.
6th – One pack of pencils.
5th – One pack of glue sticks
4th – One pair of scissors (child size)
3rd – One package of blue/black pens
2nd – One six-inch ruler
1st – One package of colored paper
Kg. – One box of crayons.
Please bring these items to your homeroom teacher beginning Monday, October 23rd. On Wednesday, October 25th, we will see that these items are delivered to the Regis House. Thank you so much for anything you are able to give.

Readings/Reflections
Readings for Sunday October 22
Reading 1
Is 53:10-11
The LORD was pleased
to crush him in infirmity.
If he gives his life as an offering for sin,
he shall see his descendants in a long life,
and the will of the LORD shall be accomplished through him.
Because of his affliction
he shall see the light in fullness
of days;
through his suffering, my servant shall justify many,
and their guilt he shall bear.
Gospel
Mk 10:35-45
James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Jesus and said to him,
"Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you."
He replied, "What do you wish me to do for you?"
They answered him, "Grant that in your glory
we may sit one at your right and the other at your left."
Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking.
Can you drink the cup that I drink
or be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?"
They said to him, "We can."
Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink, you will drink,
and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized;
but to sit at my right or at my left is not mine to give
but is for those for whom it has been prepared."
When the ten heard this, they became indignant at James and John.
Jesus summoned them and said to them,
"You know that those who are recognized as rulers over the Gentiles
lord it over them,
and their great ones make their authority over them felt.
But it shall not be so among you.
Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant;
whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of all.
For the Son of Man did not come to be served
but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many."
