“Gratitude is the fairest flower that blossoms in the soul.”
From the Desk of Sister Stella Maria, Principal:
St. Paul’s “Surf’s Up” weekend may now be counted among our most magnificent festivals. What an incredible production under the direction of Mary Ann McQueen! To understand the vastness of what it took to create this masterpiece, you must refer to the Festival Auction Guide and read pages five to twenty-five. It really does take a village. We are full of gratitude for every single person who contributed, in any way, to this super event. Our best way to express our appreciation is through the prayers of the children at St. Paul’s. We bless each one of you where blessings are most needed.
On Thursday, October 12th, each student (in all grades) will take home your appointment time for your parent/teacher conference. We ask that you accept the time scheduled for you and, only in an emergency, ask for a change through your homeroom teacher. We have worked hard to schedule parents and children in sequence to make the best use of your time. Thank you so much for your cooperation.
On Friday, October 13th, your signed card (stating that you have read the Parent Handbook) is due back to your oldest or only child’s teacher. I will collect them from each homeroom and file them for reference. Many thanks to your assistance in guiding your child/children to follow school policies. Any rule or regulation is for the well being and safety of the students.
The workshop for Protecting God’s Children will take place in the JCPC on Thursday, October 19th, from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. As stated in last week’s Epistle, it is mandatory for you to participate in this program if you wish to volunteer during or after school. I am aware how difficult this schedule is for you, so if you cannot participate on October 19th, you may visit the following web-site for another time and location: www.virtusonline.org.
Before we make the final decision to remove the pink uniform from the Sue Mills list, we are sending out a survey to the parents of the children in kindergarten through fourth grade. Your immediate response is appreciated and the results will be published

Dear SPA Families:
It’s hard to believe that the most anticipated three days of the school year has come and gone. Every trace of the festival has been torn down and stored for next festival… but we have some wonderful memories that will remain forever! We extend a sincere thanks to EVERYONE in the entire St. Paul the Apostle community. We are so grateful for the support of our school parents, the faculty, staff, our Paulist Fathers, the Parish staff, and our Parishioners. The time and energy that goes into the Festival is incredible and we are grateful for every hour that was contributed to its success.
A special thanks to Tom Buderwitz who has created our focal point, the stage, for the last 12 years; to Jean Markarian for coordinating the raffle sales; to Meg Grant for her leadership in creating the Apostle’s Attic, and to our Bake Booth Chairs, the Wojahn, Plucinski, Buderwitz, and Harmon families, who teamed up with the Lucitt and McDowell families 8 years ago. We appreciate your support as a school family and look forward to seeing you next year as alumni.
And a gigantic thank you to our Festival chairs extraordinaire, Mary Ann, Marcie, Julie, Janet, Katie, Nancy, Molly, Michelle, and Marchell for your “awesome “job. Surf’s Up, St. Paul’s was a huge success. Congratulations!

Readings for Sunday October 15
Reading 1
Wis 7:7-11
I prayed, and prudence was given me;
I pleaded, and the spirit of wisdom came to me.
I preferred her to scepter and throne,
and deemed riches nothing in comparison with her,
nor did I liken any priceless gem to her;
because all gold, in view of her, is a little sand,
and before her, silver is to be accounted mire.
Beyond health and comeliness I loved her,
and I chose to have her rather than the light,
because the splendor of her never yields to sleep.
Yet all good things together came to me in her company,
and countless riches at her hands.
Gospel
Mk 10:17-30 or 10: 17-27
As Jesus was setting out on a journey, a man ran up,
knelt down before him, and asked him,
"Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
Jesus answered him, "Why do you call me good?
No one is good but God alone.
You know the commandments: You shall not kill;
you shall not commit adultery;
you shall not steal;
you shall not bear false witness;
you shall not defraud;
honor your father and your mother."
He replied and said to him,
"Teacher, all of these I have observed from my youth."
Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him,
"You are lacking in one thing.
Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor
and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me."
At that statement his face fell,
and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.
Jesus looked around and said to his disciples,
"How hard it is for those who have wealth
to enter the kingdom of God!"
The disciples were amazed at his words.
So Jesus again said to them in reply,
"Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!
It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle
than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God."
They were exceedingly astonished and said among themselves,
"Then who can be saved?"
Jesus looked at them and said,
"For human beings it is impossible, but not for God.
All things are possible for God."
Peter began to say to him,
"We have given up everything and followed you."
Jesus said, "Amen, I say to you,
there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters
or mother or father or children or lands
for my sake and for the sake of the gospel
who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age:
houses and brothers and sisters
and mothers and children and lands,
with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come."
