From the desk of Sister Stella

" The only way to live is to accept each minute as an unrepeatable miracle, which exactly what it is: a miracle and unrepeatable." Storm Jameson

From the desk of Sister Stella Maria, Principal:

Our value for this week is REFLECTIVE. Please find a little time to have a discussion with your children on what it means to be reflective--the student' little green hand book is a good guide to begin discussion. Perhaps you can weave in an understanding of the above quote.

Please read the following bulletin very carefully. You will not want to miss this presentation.

It is such a privilege to have this stunning masterpiece come to St. Paul’s; we are all totally in awe. I have made arrangement for our seventh and eight grade students during their art classes to have a special presentation. For further information go online at saintjohnsbible.org

PWC President

Dear SPA Families:

Thank you, thank you to all the wonderful parents who have braved the inclement weather and served their traffic duty regardless of personal comfort! A reminder to everyone that you are responsible for keeping track of your obligation for traffic duty. Remember that the safety of our children depends on YOUR participation in a timely manner.

The marching band at our neighboring school, Emerson Middle School, has been invited to Washington D.C. to play in the Inaugural Parade later this month. We are so proud of our hard-working neighbors and I urge all of you to try to watch them on television! The PWC has made a donation to their fundraising efforts in order to help the members of the band travel to our nation’s capital!

On another front, you may have heard that the school is having a coin drive in order to raise money to send for Tsunami Relief. These funds will be given to Catholic Relief Services which has a vast network throughout Asia ready to help where most needed. The money will go straight to those affected most by this disaster. To find out more about this organization, visit their website at www.crs.org. The PWC will make a contribution of $5,000 to the students’ effort.

Weekly Readings/Reflections

January 16, 2005
Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Psalm: Sunday 6

Reading I
Is 49:3, 5-6

The LORD said to me: You are my servant,
Israel, through whom I show my glory.
Now the LORD has spoken
who formed me as his servant from the womb,
that Jacob may be brought back to him
and Israel gathered to him;
and I am made glorious in the sight of the LORD,
and my God is now my strength!
It is too little, the LORD says, for you to be my servant,
to raise up the tribes of Jacob,
and restore the survivors of Israel;
I will make you a light to the nations,
that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.

Reading II
1 Cor 1:1-3

Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God,
and Sosthenes our brother,
to the church of God that is in Corinth,
to you who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be holy,
with all those everywhere who call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours.
Grace to you and peace from God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Gospel
Jn 1:29-34

John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and said,
"Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.
He is the one of whom I said,
'A man is coming after me who ranks ahead of me
because he existed before me.'
I did not know him,
but the reason why I came baptizing with water
was that he might be made known to Israel."
John testified further, saying,
"I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from heaven
and remain upon him.
I did not know him,
but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me,
'On whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain,
he is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.'
Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God."
