From the desk of Sister Stella

From the Desk of Sister Stella Maria, Principal:

NEW YEAR, NEW START! It is that time of year again; the NEW YEAR brings in a flurry of NEW RESOLVES and NEW RESOLUTIONS. The tradition of a New Year’s Resolution goes all the way back to 153 BC. Take a look at the following Top Ten Alternative New Year’s Resolutions, compliments of Bible Alive, and see if any one of them appeal to you:

  • To grow in the knowledge of God’s love.
  • To deepen your prayer life.
  • To become more familiar with scripture.
  • To grow in Eucharistic wonder, amazement and awe.
  • To frequent the sacrament of reconciliation more.
  • To learn to conquer an area of sin.
  • To learn to control the tongue.
  • To read more spiritual books.
  • To forgive and let go of resentment.
  • To practice the Beatitudes and the Sermon on the Mount.

Parents, the following Christmas reflection will let you understand that everyday can be a Christmas celebration:

A Christmas Prayer

Source of divine Light, Emmanuel, God-with-us, your radiant love illuminated our waiting world

with the surprise of your Bethlehem birth.

Each year since then we celebrate this astonishing event, rejoicing in your coming anew, not as a newborn Babe, but as the hidden presence of divinity contained within each of us.

To our great astonishment, we have become your dwelling place.

We are now your Bethlehem.

Now you are Treasure birthed in the secret place of our soul.

Now you are Light gleaming through our gestures of generosity.

Now you are Hope radiating inside the core of our courage.

Now you are Joy shining into the dark caves of our gloom.

Now you are Peace glowing quietly in the crevice of our anxiety.

Now you are Love brilliantly reflected within our kindness.

O Christ, Light of all lights, Star of all stars,

dweller within these human homes of ours,

open our wandering minds and hesitant hearts

so your endless goodness radiates more completely in us.

We welcome you again and again, with gratitude and trust,

not only in this Christmas season of remembrance and celebration

but all through the new year that awaits us.

TRAFFIC REPORT for Parents and Children -- URGENT

Please, please do not J-walk anywhere, at any time,

FOR ANY REASON.  Remember, we are all teaching by example, and no child (or parent) should ever think that it is safe to J-walk.

Children should only be dropped off at designated drop off points – NEVER anywhere else.  Parents should walk them to school and cross with the crossing guards and/or in official crosswalks.  At pick up, follow traffic guidelines (per SPA handbook).  If you do not drive in to the parking lot, you are expected to park and walk in to the school to get your child.  Upon exiting, walk alongside them, take care that you both stop at the driveways, and PLEASE have them cross with you at the crosswalks.

At no time should a child exit school without a parent alongside them.  Should anyone see this occur, please personally escort that child back inside the school to wait for their parent to come inside to get them.

SPA Traffic Rules are in effect from the moment you drop off your child (as per our traffic system), up until those children are SAFELY inside their parent’s car at the end of the school day.

Please go over the Traffic Rules with your children and make sure they understand and practice them.

We are all responsible for everyone’s safety.  Please make this a priority for your children, and everyone else’s.

Thank you.

Weekly Readings/Reflections

Readings for Sunday January 14

Reading 1
Isaiah 62:1-5

For Zion’s sake I will not be silent,
for Jerusalem’s sake I will not be quiet,
until her vindication shines forth like the dawn
and her victory like a burning torch.

Nations shall behold your vindication,
and all the kings your glory;
you shall be called by a new name
pronounced by the mouth of the LORD.
You shall be a glorious crown in the hand of the LORD,
a royal diadem held by your God.
No more shall people call you “Forsaken, “
or your land “Desolate, “
but you shall be called “My Delight,”
and your land “Espoused.”
For the LORD delights in you
and makes your land his spouse.
As a young man marries a virgin,
your Builder shall marry you;
and as a bridegroom rejoices in his bride
so shall your God rejoice in you.

Gospel
Jn 2:1-11

There was a wedding at Cana in Galilee,
and the mother of Jesus was there.
Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding.
When the wine ran short,
the mother of Jesus said to him,
“They have no wine.”
And Jesus said to her,
“Woman, how does your concern affect me?
My hour has not yet come.”
His mother said to the servers,
“Do whatever he tells you.”
Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings,
each holding twenty to thirty gallons.
Jesus told the them,
“Fill the jars with water.”
So they filled them to the brim.
Then he told them,
“Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.”
So they took it.
And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine,
without knowing where it came from
-. although the servers who had drawn the water knew -.,
the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him,
“Everyone serves good wine first,
and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one;
but you have kept the good wine until now.”
Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs at Cana in Galilee
and so revealed his glory,
and his disciples began to believe in him.
