Weekly Readings/Reflections

From the desk of Sister Stella

"The learned will shine like the brilliance of the firmament, and those who train many in the way of justice will sparkle like stars for all eternity." Dan. 12.

From the Desk of Sister Stella Maria, Principal:

We offer our love, prayers and sympathy to Tina Cathcart (our President of Parents Working for Children) on the death of her Father, Mr. John Leonetti. He died peacefully on December 30th. By looking at his family and working so closely with Tina, we know the legacy he has left behind. Through all of his good works, we also know and believe that he “will sparkle like stars for all eternity." This New Year of 2008

Mend a quarrel.

Seek out a forgotten friend.

Write a love letter.

Share some treasure.

Give a soft answer.

Encourage a young person.

Keep a promise.

Find the time.

Forgive an enemy.

Listen.

Apologize if you were wrong.

Think first of someone else.

Be kind and gentle.

Laugh a little.

Laugh a little more.

Express your gratitude.

Gladden the heart of a child.

Take pleasure in the beauty and wonder of the earth.

Speak your love.

Speak it again.

Speak it still once more.

The Faculty, Staff and I wish to express our most sincere and deepest gratitude to all of our families.  Thank you for the Christmas Greetings through cards, good wishes and many, many beautiful gifts. For your thoughtfulness and generosity, may you be blessed in a million ways during 2008.

Parents, please remember that on this Thursday night, January 10th, there is a mandatory meeting for all parents from grades six through eight. This is our drug education program – yes, you and your children need this knowledge. Please try not to be among the parents who say, “our family does not need this information,” as you may live to regret that statement. The program starts at 7:00 p.m. and should continue until about 9:00 p.m. Please sign-in according to your grade level. Again, this meeting is mandatory for sixth through eighth grade families, but all parents are welcome.

Dear SPA Parents:

Welcome back!  I hope that everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing holiday season with family and friends.  Happy New Year to All!

On a personal note, I would like to say thank you to all of you for your kind words, prayers, and mass cards on the death of my Dad, John Leonetti.  I have always said St. Paul’s is a unique and special community and you have all just proved the point right again.  It was my Dad’s time to visit God in heaven, thank you all for being there for me and my family as we get through this new journey without him.

Well, a new year is here… and so are many events once again.  We are never bored here at St. Paul’s.  This week is the Miles to Go Program-The Drug Awareness Program offered to the children grades 5-8.  With this, is a MANDATORY PARENT meeting for 6th-8th grade on Thursday January 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the JCPC.  This Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. the 7th and 8th graders will have their school dance.  Next week we begin the Book Fair to be held on Tuesday, January 15th and Wednesday January 16th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Thank you to all of the volunteers who will be working this and a very big thank you to Justine Martin for coordinating this event.  Please one and all come and support this Book Fair because 15% of the proceeds will go directly to OUR school library this year!

Mark your calendars-Sunday January 20th will be the opening Liturgy for the Paulist 150th celebration at  the 11:00 a.m. Mass.

Have a great week-thought for the week:

Jesus said, “Your strong love for each other will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” John 13:35

AYSO Soccer Uniforms

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who donated their AYSO soccer uniforms.  The box was full within days thanks to your generosity.  The uniforms will be gathered and sent this week, and you can just imagine the kids' faces when they see what you have sent them.  Santa Claus really does exist and he's alive and kicking at St Pauls!

Thanks again to you all

Weekly Readings/Reflections

READINGS FOR  SUNDAY
January 13, 2008
The Baptism of the Lord

Reading 1
Is 42:1-4, 6-7

Thus says the LORD:
Here is my servant whom I uphold,
my chosen one with whom I am pleased,
upon whom I have put my spirit;
he shall bring forth justice to the nations,
not crying out, not shouting,
not making his voice heard in the street.
a bruised reed he shall not break,
and a smoldering wick he shall not quench,
until he establishes justice on the earth;
the coastlands will wait for his teaching.

I, the LORD, have called you for the victory of justice,
I have grasped you by the hand;
I formed you, and set you
as a covenant of the people,
a light for the nations,
to open the eyes of the blind,
to bring out prisoners from confinement,
and from the dungeon, those who live in darkness.

Gospel
Mt 3:13-17
Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan
to be baptized by him.
John tried to prevent him, saying,
“I need to be baptized by you,
and yet you are coming to me?”
Jesus said to him in reply,
“Allow it now, for thus it is fitting for us
to fulfill all righteousness.”
Then he allowed him.
After Jesus was baptized,
he came up from the water and behold,
the heavens were opened for him,
and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove
and coming upon him.
And a voice came from the heavens, saying,
“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
