PWC President

Dear SPA Parents:

            Fall Festival is almost here!!   Jill O’Callahan and her fellow pirates have been busy with the final touches.  If you are interested in helping with the Festival Booth assembly this weekend starting at 9:00  please contact Mayora Hiney.  They also need people to help take down the wine tent on Saturday night after the festival closes and to put up the auction tables for Sunday. Mayora Hiney would love to hear from you.  We are in ned of finding a family who would like to take over the Snow Cone Booth NEXT YEAR-maybe you could “shadow” the Snow cone Booth this year and see how much fun it is and that you would like to take it over from the graduating parents-“food for thought” or should I say, “ice for thought”?

            Other Business:  Please remember not to park on Selby north of the drop-off driveway in the mornings. we need to keep that area clear so as not to cause congestion. It gets dangerous if cars have to pull out after dropping off and go around cars parked and then there is moving traffic coming north onSelby.  After drop-off is finished that area is a 15 minute parking zone.  Don’t forget the follow the specific pick-up next week for Festival Week.  Sister outlined it very well in the Epistle.

The Directory should be handed out the week of the 8th.  Michelle Boydston, thank you for all of your diligence in putting the Directory together.

Have a great week: thought for the week:
Go to the Lord for help; and worship him continually.  Psalm 105:4

St. Paul the Apostle School Board

2007-2008

The St. Paul the Apostle School Board met on Wednesday, September 19th, 2007.  The School Board is comprised of 10 regular members and 7 advisory members including Sister Stella, Fr. John Ardis, and the current PWC President.  President Janet Feeley called the meeting to order at 4:30pm.  The weekly Gospel was read and the minutes from the June 2007 were presented and approved.  PWC President Tina Cathcart briefed those in attendance on the Back to School activities and Fall Festival planning.  Reports were heard from the Foundation and Parish Finance Council.  Kari Frigulti reported that the parish is committed to providing a comprehensive youth ministry and that recent parish restructuring efforts will not compromise this goal.  Disaster Preparedness remains a priority of the School Board and Debbie Buderwitz will work closely with the parish to create a comprehensive plan.

Sr. Stella reported that the start of school went well and that the school has full enrollment.  She indicated that the School Board has been mandated by the WASC Accreditation committee to create a written long-range financial plan for the school.  The School Board's Finance sub-committee will begin work on the plan this year.  The Paulists welcome a new priest to our parish, Ivan Tao.  School administration reports that the summer repair work has been completed and that financial aid has been allocated in a fair and compassionate manner.  The Security sub-committee will have a list of proposed recommendations or better securing the school campus by the next meeting.  Sue Bjelajac reported that the school would be working more closely with the parish social justice and outreach committee.  One focus will be outreach programs designed to involve the entire family.  The meeting adjourned on time.  The next meeting will be held October 17, 2007 at 4:30pm.

Weekly Readings/Reflections

Sunday October 7, 2007

Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Radings I
Hab 1:2-3; 2:2-4

How long, O LORD? I cry for help
but you do not listen!
I cry out to you, "Violence!"
but you do not intervene.
Why do you let me see ruin;
why must I look at misery?
Destruction and violence are before me;
there is strife, and clamorous discord.
Then the LORD answered me and said:
Write down the vision clearly upon the tablets,
so that one can read it readily.
For the vision still has its time,
presses on to fulfillment, and will not disappoint;
if it delays, wait for it,
it will surely come, it will not be late.
The rash one has no integrity;
but the just one, because of his faith, shall live.

Gospel
Lk 17:5-10

The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith."
The Lord replied,
"If you have faith the size of a mustard seed,
you would say to this mulberry tree,
'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.

"Who among you would say to your servant
who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field,
'Come here immediately and take your place at table'?
Would he not rather say to him,
'Prepare something for me to eat.
Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink.
You may eat and drink when I am finished'?
Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded?
So should it be with you.
When you have done all you have been commanded,
say, 'We are unprofitable servants;
we have done what we were obliged to do.'"
